Ahead of the 75th anniversary UK stage tour of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, the Bedford Park Festival is celebrating CS Lewis’s iconic children’s book, offering young people the chance to enter the magical kingdom where “it’s always winter but never Christmas”.

It’s inviting them to read the books, watch the film, hunt the pictures, dress up as the characters, walk through the wardrobe, paint the pictures and win prizes!

Narnia and its most memorable characters will be highlighted in the Festival’s Fancy Dress competition and Children’s Corner on Green Days; a Treasure Hunt in Turnham Green Terrace; a Young Artists Competition; and two Kids Club screenings at The Chiswick Cinema of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

In partnership with the Chiswick Book Festival, children and parents will also be encouraged to read the Narnia books that inspired the film and the new stage production. Other Festival partners supporting the Narnia activities include The Chiswick Cinema, Trotters, Orchard House School, Chiswick Arts & Crafts, Young St Michael’s and the Young Veterinary Partnership.

C.S. Lewis wrote seven novels that together form The Chronicles of Narnia. The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe was first published in 1950 and over 85 million copies have been sold in 60 languages, making it one of the top ten best-selling books of all time.

The two-day Green Days Fete & Craft Fair (June 8th and 9th 2024) is the Bedford Park Festival’s opening weekend and will feature the usual array of bands, refreshments and stalls, supported by many local companies.

Profits will support St Michael & All Angels Church, which runs the Festival as part of its mission of community outreach, and its three 2024 charities: The Upper Room, helping the needy in Shepherd’s Bush; Swinfen Telemedicine, which links specialist medical expertise to doctors and nurses in remote regions of the world; and Crosslight Chiswick, which provides face-to-face debt advice, together with money education and budgeting support to individuals and families in need.
